Job Summary: The University of Alabama System is receiving nominations and applications for the position of Director of Internal Audit at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Reporting to the Chief Audit Officer, the Director is responsible for managing and directing the Office of Internal Audit at The University of Alabama. The Director is responsible for using Internal Audit resources to provide clients, including all levels of management, with an independent assessment of the organization’s controls and business processes as well as recommendations for continuous improvement. The Director is responsible for performing and supervising internal audit work in accordance with appropriate departmental policies and procedures and professional standards including International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.


Required candidate qualifications include: • A bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field CPA or CIA certification • Ten years of relevant experience in public accounting, internal auditing, or governmental accounting • Five years of supervisory experience as an audit manager or equivalent • Proven ability to plan, implement, and lead the internal audit function • Effective oral and written communication skills


Specific responsibilities include: • Maintaining ongoing relationships with senior campus management to ensure familiarity with operations, strategies, technology, and key initiatives • Creating risk-based audit plan for the Office of Internal Audit • Identifying and staying current on emerging technologies that provide more efficient/effective operations • Leveraging technology and data and adopting industry best practices • Recruiting and maintaining resources in appropriate numbers and competencies to achieve the annual audit plan • Identifying the professional developmental needs of the Internal Audit staff and creating strategies to meet those needs • Providing advice and counsel to management concerning issues of risk and controls regarding new initiatives and strategies
