Job Summary: Reporting directly to the General Counsel, the System Counsel is responsible for providing legal support to The University of Alabama System. This legal support includes managing administrative matters; negotiating, drafting and reviewing transactional documents; providing legal advice and counsel, particularly in the areas of tax, investments, human resources, benefits, and other business and administrative areas; assisting the General Counsel as needed; and managing other duties as assigned.



REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school;
• License to practice law in the State of Alabama;
• A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible legal experience;
• Experience in transactional matters and providing legal advice and counsel to clients;
• Strong academic credentials; and
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
• More than five (5) years of closely related experience
• Experience with higher education issues;
• Excellent legal research, analysis and problem-solving skills;
• Demonstrated success in effectively serving a broad, diverse and demanding clientele;
• Proven ability to effectively collaborate with others, including attorneys and professional staff.



RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING
• Managing administrative matters;
• Negotiating, drafting and reviewing transactional documents;
• Providing legal advice and counsel, particularly in the areas of tax, investments, human resources, benefits, and other business and administrative areas;
• Assisting the General Counsel as needed
