REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, criminal justice, law enforcement, security or a closely related field.
  • Ten years of relevant experience.
  • Equivalent education and experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be considered.
  • APOST certification in Law Enforcement.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound independent judgement and discretion.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively across all functions, levels, and departments within the System Office and campuses.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and willingness to operate vehicles, including providing transportation as needed, in the course of employment. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier.
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office suite and other industry-driven software.

Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience in law enforcement on a college campus.
  • Any professionally recognized certifications in the security or law enforcement related field.
  • Experience as a trainer for specific issues of safety and security (i.e. defensive driving, active shooter and other similar trainings).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following

  • Advising, making recommendations, assisting in the formulation of security related goals and objectives.
  • Collaborating and coordinating with campus (UA, UAB, UAH), local and state law enforcement.
  • Designing, implementing and monitoring security policies, procedures and programs consistent with federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  • Ensuring established goals and objectives are accomplished with prescribed priorities, time limitations and with fiscal responsibilities.
