Job Summary: The Manager of Academic Advising provides direct supervision of Academic Advisors. Hires, trains, and conducts performance evaluations. May oversee a specific type of academic advising.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of student advising experience in higher education; OR master's degree and three (3) years of student advising experience in higher education.
Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrated experience in academic advising, particularly with special student populations, as well as expertise in degree audits. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong public speaking abilities. Proficient in the use of technology to support advising and program administration, including advanced knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet development, data management, and reporting tools. Comfortable navigating student information systems and learning management platforms, with the ability to quickly adapt to new software and digital tools to enhance efficiency and service delivery. Exceptional planning, coordination, and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Ability to read, interpret, and apply university policies and procedures. Demonstrated professionalism in representing the University to students, families, and external stakeholders. Ability to manage, mentor, and evaluate professional and/or student staff while fostering a collaborative team environment.
Some travel is required to attend recruitment events and represent the program at on-campus and off-campus meetings.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree or higher in Higher Education, College Student Personnel Services, Guidance and Counseling, or a related field. Experience in academic advising, particularly with special student populations, as well as expertise in degree audits.. Proven success in project development and management. Experience collaborating across departments or divisions in a higher education setting. Supervisory experience with professional and/or student staff. Proficiency with Banner, Slate, and related data systems, including reporting functions. Experience in planning, coordinating, and executing events for students, families, and campus partners.
