Job Summary: The Systems Engineer III provides effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and administration of systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure. Provides advanced level systems engineering and administration to support the functionality and availability of enterprise-wide and mission-critical University systems under minimal supervision.


Additional Department Summary: Provides effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and administration of Linux systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure. Serves as a senior technician to provide advanced level systems engineering and administration to support the functionality and availability of enterprise-wide and mission-critical University systems independently or under limited supervision. After hours monitoring of systems health and performance is required.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree and two (2) years of system engineering or administration experience, or advanced technical work experience in devops development; OR bachelor's degree and four (4) years of system engineering or administration experience, or advanced technical work experience in devops development; OR associate's degree and six (6) years of IT experience to include four (4) years of system engineering or administration, or advanced technical work in devops development; OR High school diploma or GED and eight (8) years of IT experience to include four (4) years of system engineering or administration, or advanced technical work in devops development.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.


Skills and Knowledge: Excellent troubleshooting skills. Ability to work independently to complete goals. Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills. Experience in Linux systems administration, PowerShell scripting, VMWare vSphere, configuration management using Salt or other, and MySQL/MariaDB or similar DB management.


Preferred Qualifications: Experience managing webhosting infrastructure using Apache and PHP on Linux highly. Experience with any of the following: SUSE Linux Enterprise and openSUSE; Kubernetes, Docker, and Rancher; SUSE Manager and/or Uyuni for configuration management; Zabbix monitoring; RADIUS, LDAP, A10 Loadbalancers; Dell PowerStore storage 11; and defined storage solutions such asBeeGFS, Ceph, and Gluster.
