Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; some evenings & weekends.


Job Summary: The Academic Advisor II provides guidance to University students on academic progress, courses, University resources, etc. Identifies courses to be completed in upcoming semesters. Explains University and College policies. Provides guidance and trains entry-level advisors. May teach compass course as needed.


Additional Department Summary: Serves as the primary advising contact for the University Honors Program, providing comprehensive academic guidance and curriculum planning while acting as a central resource on Honors College requirements, policies, and procedures. Ensures students understand how Honors coursework integrates with their major, minor, and general education requirements to support timely progress toward graduation. Develops co-curricular programming and ensures alignment between Honors advising, college advising, and institutional policies. Fosters collaboration with Honors College faculty, staff, leadership, and campus partners to enhance the overall student experience. Contributes to the Honors College scholarship review process and engages in ongoing professional development to continually strengthen advising effectiveness and student support.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of academic advising experience; OR master's degree and some academic advising experience.


Skills and Knowledge: Ability to work effectively with groups of students, faculty, staff, and campus partners. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Proficiency with student information systems, database management, and spreadsheet development. Ability to interpret and apply University, College, and departmental academic policies and procedures accurately. Analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills that support effective student advising and record management.


Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree and experience in academic support, teaching, recruitment, and/or admissions position.
