Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm


Job Summary: The Congressional Archival Specialist performs rehousing of materials in various formats in line with professional best practices and department standards and digitize materials selected for web delivery in digital collections and digital exhibits. Performs public service duties related to the Richard C. Shelby collection, including reference and stacks maintenance for efficient retrieval. Generates usage statistics and other metrics for the Richard C. Shelby collection.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of archival experience; OR master's degree and some archival experience.


Skills and Knowledge: Strong analytical problem-solving capabilities and detail orientation. Self-motivation, responsibility, dependability, and eagerness to learn and innovate. Adaptability. Ability to work independently and effectively in a collaborative setting. Knowledge of best practices for processing and management of archival materials.


Preferred Qualifications: Experience with special collections operations including processing and access guidelines and procedures for archives. Experience supervising student workers. Familiarity with collections management and tracking applications including ArchivesSpace and Aeon. Familiarity with metadata best practices and standards for digital collections stewardship, including MODS, Dublin Core, EAD, and METS. Experience operating specialized scanning equipment. Familiarity with best practices for archival digitization.
